Dream homes...and a volkswagen bug

Pictured below is one of my "dream houses". (I have a few of these.) There are two of these dream homes near my own home on a street I have to drive on often; and yes, that would be me, gazing wistfully out the window at them...This particular house is in Leavenworth, and every year, I drag my husband down this street just to see this house we found on one of our walks in the residential area a few years ago.

Isn't sweet house amazing? Wait until you see what she has in her front yard...no, your eyes do not deceive you. That is a vintage volkswagen bug you see!

When I first saw this, I was so inspired! The owner of this house actually took just the frame of this car and grew a garden around it! I have always loved volkswagen bugs, and REALLY wanted to buy a yellow one when I was in college, but my dad was worried for my safety, like most fathers would be. The engine is not in the front of the car like most other vehicles, so you are less likely to survive a head-on collision. I didn't want him to worry about me. Oh well, I thought at the time...you win some, you lose some...but now I'm thinking, why NOT just put the frame of one in our yard instead? I already have a vintage washing machine out there...why not a old car?

Our neighbors are very kind and quiet and I guess you would say, traditional. The houses are all painted neutral colors, and if they garden, it is very orderly and, well, normal. Then we come along and upset everything with my eccentric nature...and with our bright-as-can-be blue house. When we painted the peaks farm red last summer, one of our neighbors remarked to his wife, "Well, it looks like we're going to have a red house next door." Indeed. Although, in all fairness, it is red AND blue with white trim. Kind of like an American flag, but it looks really nice. (Of course, next year, I am going to repaint the house yellow, because this blue isn't exactly what we had in mind, and I wanted it to be yellow in the first place! ) Here's a tip: ALWAYS test paint a very large section before spraying your entire house! You might find it's just a tad bit brighter than you had anticipated...

...Well anyway, what do you think of what this talented lady did in her front yard? I definitely wanted to have a picture of it before trying to explain it~ a picture is worth a thousand words and all that~ because I know it would sound crazy otherwise. But I KNOW I could make it every bit as cute as it is in the picture! It could go in the front side of the house, and have a beautiful garden all around it! Oh, car junk yard, here I come...at least as soon as we finish the inside of our home! Which will probably be about the time we pay off our mortgage. Just joking! (I hope.)

Seriously though, I have way too many irons in the fire right now, but this is something I'll keep in my "maybe someday" ideas.

Here are a few pictures we took down by the river that runs though the park in Leavenworth. (Another place we walk through.) The beauty of this place just amazes me every time I visit it.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and that it will be a great week ahead for you all! :)

What a darling, darling idea to put a VW Bug in your garden! It's too cute!! I never would've thought that till I saw the picture. I've been wanting a Bug for a while now in spite of the safety thing. I have envy problems every time I see a cute one drive by.

I would never have the guts to put a car carcass in my yard and garden around it, but man does it look awesome!! I wonder what it looked like in its "earlier stages" -- I wonder if people were like, "Um...she's got a car parked on her lawn. With a daisy growing out of it." LOL. With mature plantings it looks so, SO cool.

That house is just adorable. I love the white pickets against the red of the house.

We have a guy down the street that is evidently starting an automobile cemetary. I'm tempted to sneak over there one night and plant a bunch of lavender in them!

What a cute idea Jenni - guess what? We used to have a red volkswagen when the children were young. I loved it : ) My dad worried too about the safety of it, but was pretty sturdily built.
