The last candle of Advent

On Christmas Day, we lit the fifth (and last) candle in the Advent wreath. This is the "Christ candle", and as we light this candle, we remember the baby Jesus born in a humble stable. This was the prophecy of a Savior fulfilled; Christ is born!

The Christ candle verse:

So they (the shepherds) hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
~ Luke 2:16-20

What Child Is This

What Child is this, who,
laid to rest,
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet
with anthems sweet,
while shepherds watch are keeping?

This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard
and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring
Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

Why lies He in such mean estate
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christian, fear:
for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.

So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh,
Come, peasant, king, to own Him;
The King of Kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.

This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard
and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
Amen.

Our family has so much enjoyed the Advent wreath this year, and I am so glad we did it! I hope you are all doing well, and have a wonderful weekend! :)

What Child is this is my favorite song from this season. I would play it on the piano as a child and both my sister and I would sing it. Now I played not well and our voices were horrible but it was the thought and the spirit that counts.
