A French cookbook

Have any of you seen the movie "Julie and Julia"? It has been out on DVD for a while, and my husband and I finally rented it last month. We so enjoyed it! I especially loved the scenes of the movie that focused on Julia Child~ my favorite part was when she first saw her cookbook, bound and published.

I thought it would be a fun book to have~ there is so much I don't know about cooking and who knows more about cooking, specifically French cooking~ than Julia Child? My husband gave it to me for my birthday last month, and the first thing I looked for was how to make pastry dough for turnovers.

I am going to use this recipe for fruit turnovers. I have used the puff pastry shells you can buy at the grocery store, but I want to do it from scratch! And how fun it will be to learn to make a pie crust out of this book!

I just love the illustrations in this book! So sweet and vintage!

I must admit to being more excited about the making the desserts than the entrees! Which would you try out first?

Good Morning Jenni.
That was such a cute movie. And your new cookbook looks precious on your counter. One of my favorite scenes was when she needed to cook the lobsters. Bless her heart. :o)
I look forward to hearing how your pastry turns out. I am sure it will be delicious!
Have a wonderful day.
Sincerely ~ Tricia

Morning Jenni,

I haven't seen that movie yet. The cookbook looks like a great one. So sweet of your hubby to get it for you.

Hope you are having a wonderful day.♥

The movie is in my to-watch list. I have also heard good things about it. I would also start by the pastry just because I have a sweet tooth! Now, I commend you for wanting to start with puff pastry: that's definitely not the easiest - it takes a long time to make. Good luck with it! I usually like to make things from scratch too, but I pass on that one and buy it frozen. Please let me know how it goes. I'm sure you'll have fun with all the recipes :)

The entrees! So here's the idea. You make dessert, I'll make the entree, we'll have a good lunch. ; )

I've wanted to see the movie for awhile. Knowing you liked it gives me motivation to watch it too. BTW, I love how the aqua cook book matches your kitchen.

Hi Jenni!

That movie was incredible! My BFF and I went and saw it in the theatre and I couldn't think of a better movie for two girls to go see. I bought it the day it came out on DVD and Bryan really liked it! Melissa (BFF) wants the cookbook that you got. I hope your turnovers turn out wonderful!

I wanted to tell you that I am so excited that you guys are still looking into NC! Yes, our summers here are brutal. We have already seen 90* weather but I LOVE it! Winston is about 30 minutes from Greensboro. It's a large town with lots of history and things to do. We use to shop there a lot when we lived in Reidsville. People have always been friendly! It's a college town with 2 Universities- Wake Forest & Winston Salem State and one community college- Forsyth Tech. Two big trauma centers- NC Baptist and Forsyth Memorial. Sorry, I think it's always important to live around a good hospital...:o). Some of the smaller towns around Winston such as Clemmons and Lewisville are very nice! I hope you guys decide to head this way!

Hi Jenni,
I loved that movie too! I think it's so cool your husband got you the cookbook. I would make the desserts first too! That beef jello thing they made in the movie looked just gross though! I'm surprised that wasn't the first recipe you tried out! LOL!!!
Hope things are going wonderful for you!

I haven't seen the movie yet, but plan on renting it some time soon. That is a cute cookbook and looks pretty useful too. I just saw your previous post about the antique silverware and love how it looks on your counter in the white cup. You've got me wanting some too!
