Each candle has a traditional color, but you can choose any colors for your candles really. I am just choosing colors that go with my dining room. :) Right now, as I don't have it all together yet, I am just using a light green one for now. I may replace it~ we'll see.
The first candle is the Prophecy candle. This candle stands for the promises foretold by the prophets, promises of the birth of Christ.
"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned." ~Isaiah 9:2
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee,
O Israel.
O come, Thou Dayspring,
come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death's dark shadows put to flight.
O come, Desire of nations, bind
All peoples in one heart and mind;
Bid envy, strife, and quarrels cease;
And fill the world with heaven's peace.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel!
Amen.
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee,
O Israel.
O come, Thou Dayspring,
come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death's dark shadows put to flight.
O come, Desire of nations, bind
All peoples in one heart and mind;
Bid envy, strife, and quarrels cease;
And fill the world with heaven's peace.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel!
Amen.

I LOVE that!! I can't wait to see the whole thing put together....
what an awesome tradition to start! so important to raise our children to know and love Jesus. Good job!!
Your photo is so pretty! I really like this idea. We do an advent calendar, but haven't ever done it with candles. It's just beautiful! :)
I love this idea. I can't wait to see how it looks, but also to hear how it works for your family. I think we have to do things to remind ourselves about the true meaning of Christmas. I might copy you when my kids are old enough to "get it!"

We didn't grow up doing it either but I want to do it too. It sounds like a great tradition. I love that song too.
Hi Jenni,
I also did not grow up learning about Advent. I am still a little sketchy. How precious to pass along such a sweet tradition to your children.
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne
Ps. I have a little something for you on my blog today. :o) Thank you so much for your kind words and prayers during the past couple weeks. They have been felt. :o)
I think that's a great tradition to start. And I love that song...it's one of my Christmas favorites.
What a wonderful tradition. :-)
great idea I didn't grow up with the advent calendar either but my husband did I can't wait to see the finished project.
I love this idea..we light them at church on the eve. We like to make a birthday cake for Jesus. I thinkk that is sooo special that your son did this at Sunday school. cherry
We do this in church each week and Bryce does at school, too!
I grew up doing it in our home but for some reason we don't in our home. Not sure how Jas and I got away from it. Something for us to think about doing....
Happy Monday and Merry December~ Les
